A Sneak Peek at The Ultimate Guide to Charlie & the Chocolate Factory

Happy Beginning-of-The-Week my friends!

And what a busy week it will be.Running here, crafting there, and meetings, meetings, meetings (good meetings though).

I feel like a giddy schoolgirl with a secret to share…so I will! All of us at Jump Into A Book and Audrey Press are beyond excited to share the fact that our beloved The Ultimate Guide to Charlie and The Chocolate Factory is poised and ready for take-off. We haven’t even announced it yet to the rest of the world…… not officially yet…but rest assured the big “reveal” to the world will be in a few weeks. We just wanted to give YOU, our valued readers, a sneak peek at the creation that has evolved, grown and blossomed over the course of 20+ months.

Inspired by the love of a good story, some imagination, a sense of adventure and a good dose of curiosity, children and the adults who care for them can take flight into one of our most beloved books, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The Ultimate Guide presents several experiential activities in the areas of crafting, cooking, and game-playing as well as exploring many facets of candy production, and meeting the author himself, Roald Dahl. Each step and activity leads us further into the story to bring more and more of it to life, leaving a lasting impression of an adventure and journey share….

A Little Back History:

Many people ask me how the idea of book jumping and the concept of The Ultimate Guide to Charlie was born.

The idea for this book was born a long time ago when my girls were 6 and 9. My mother had recently passed away and the girls were really sad. Each one had a special momento of my mom’s to remember her by but daily they would ask me questions about her. What was her favorite food? What made her laugh? What was she like as a child? At one point I was asked what were her favorite books and that’s when I came up with the idea for our mother/daughter book club called Book Adventures.

The first book we jumped into was Heidi, 13 years and a few hundred books later, Book Adventures turned into Jump into a Book, and now a very Ultimate Guide. Once we started living inside the pages of our books, the kids realized that they no longer needed to wait until the next book, or book adventure meeting to relive their favorite stories. One of our family favorite books just happened to be Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It’s a book you can find my children playing inside nearly on a weekly basis.

Then I met the incredibly talented Roscoe Welply. Roscoe is the graphic designer/ illustrator and book designer of not only “Charlie” but The Fox Diaries as well.

Roscoe and I met at Odesk. It’s a website where one can go to hire people they need for their work. At the time I was putting The Fox Diaries together and needed a really good cover. I went to Odesk and looked through a few portfolios. The 2nd or 3rd portfolio was Roscoe’s. As I continued to look at different people’s work I kept comparing them to Roscoe. Finally it dawned on me that if I was comparing everyone else to Roscoe that I should probably just ask Roscoe to do the book cover. He did a brilliant cover which graces all versions of The Fox Diaries and he designed the interior as well.

Together we embarked on this very long, but very magical journey or creating The Ultimate Guide to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Why is “Charlie” so special? Charlie brings together the awe and wonder of enhanced digital ebooks and the family activity of book jumping, and does so within one of the most beloved children’s tales of all time.

The bottom line is that our “reveal day” is coming soon and it’s charged with an energy of anticipation and excitement that I don’t even think Santa Claus could capture.
