This week is "Celebrate Children's Book Week". It's a nationwide celebration of children's books and the love of reading. In 1919, it all began with the idea that children's books can change lives. Since then, Children's Book Week has been celebrated in schools, libraries, families, bookstores, and in all places where there are kids and books. Children's book Week is sponsored by the Children's Book Council.

It's with the spirit of this celebration that I announce our Jump Into A Book Summer Reading Adventures!!!

  1. I would love to – Maria (9) Emma (7) and Nate (7). We are reading The Princess Bride together right now – love it!

  2. I’m not sure my last comment went through so I will try it again. What great books! We would love to join you on this journey! We always try to make our books come alive by eating the foods and having theme dinners or crafts but we think it would be so much fun to do this together with other people who share the same interests! We look forward to it! mkhc511@gmail.com

  3. Hi Beth,
I’m so glad you’re joining us. Are Emma and Nate twins? My husband always wanted twins. We have read the Princess Bride so many times. It’s a great story. It never gets old. You’ll hear more next week about the dates and specifics. Be well.

  4. Hi Molly,
It’s great to meet other bookjumpers. It is so much more fun in a group isn’t it. I’m so glad you’ve joined us for our summer reading adventures. You’ll hear more from me next week. Until then be well.

  5. We would love to join in, I have two girls 5 (and a very big bit!) and 7. We love reading together, and both girls are avid lovers of curling up with books in their own time also. I love reading all your ideas and suggestions, thanks for some teriffic ideas.

  6. We would love to sign up too! We are a homeschooling family, Jude Henry is 6 and not really that interested in reading yet, so maybe this will jump start his interest. Molly is 10 and an avid reader and I am Kim, mama to 4 (two in college, ugh!) goosesperry@gmail.com

  7. Thanks Valarie! I’ve been following your amazing site for a while….I have a passion for ALL books and you pick some fabulous reads….I have an older son (20) that the initial “book jumping” (I love that term) began with! Our other kids are Brooke and Taylor who will be 8 this summer (TWINS!) and Douglas who will be 4 this summer. We really are looking forward to joining you!
PS thanks for the tip on Children’s Book Council, I have some great site and subscriptions (Horn Book Review) but didn’t have this one and I love it!

  8. Hi Hannah,
I’m so glad you are going to join us. You are our second set of twins in these adventures. Thanks for reading the blog. It means so much to me. It is truly a heartfelt project. More info coming at the beginning of next week. Take care and have a great weekend.

  9. Hi Kim,
After tomorrow I will have two in college too. It goes so fast. I’m so glad you are joining us. We are going to have a great time. There’ll be more information next week. Until then have a great weekend.

  10. Hi Marcia,
I didn’t get your comment so thanks for writing it again. There’s more information coming this week. I’m so glad you are joining us. Take care.

  11. Would love a summer reading program. Not sure if my little ones are too little but…I have a son who is going to be 4 on June 2nd and a little gril who is 19 months. My son loves chpater books like the Tiptoes series and Donsey of Gnomes.
    Thank you,

  12. We’d love to sign up. I have three children, but only two reading right now. George is 4 and an avid reader (he’s autistic, too) and Cora is age 8. Thanks for doing this! We can’t wait. My email is littlewormhouse at gmail dot com

  13. Hi G’anna. I’m so glad you are going to be joining us. We are looking forward to it too. If your children can sit through listening to a story then they aren’t too young. You will have to help them through some of the activites but I don’t think there will be any problem. Happy Reading!

  14. Hi! We would love to join you if it is not too late! My name is Alisha and my children are 10, 7, 5 and 2. I am hoping to spend part of each summer day on a blanket (in the backyard or the park) reading something yummy to them. I especially would like book recommendations that are appropriate for my 3 older children.

  15. Hi Alisha,
I’m so glad you will be joining us. What great ages you have at your house. What a great plan to spend the part of each day on a blanket with a stack of books. I’m preparing a booklist right now for some great summer reads but until then just go to the booklist tab or in the categories and see some of the things I’ve posted in the past. I look forward to sharing this time with you. Take Care.

  16. My twin daughters and I would love to participate. Fern and Blossom are ten. We spend part of each summer day reading in the porch swing or by the lake (and I often notice that their light is still on when mine goes off because it’s hard, hard, hard to put down a great story). It will be fun to read along with other book lovers! Thanks so much for the invitation…
